Flick was born in Aden in 1962 where her father was serving in the army. She is married to Hereward who is from a naval family and was born in Petersfield. They have 4 children, two of whom are students and the younger two have nearly finished school.
Flick has a degree from Hull University and has recently completed a Masters degree in Global Politics and International Relations as a mature student at Southampton University. After university she worked in London as an insurance broker before taking time out of the work place to have her 4 children. In London she was a member of the Territorial Army.
While she was bringing up the family she was an active member of the Winchester and Eastleigh Community Health Council chairing the acute group, she also chaired the local branch of the National Childbirth Trust and became a Winchester City Councillor.
In 1994 she trained as a lay school inspector for OFSTED and inspected over 50 primary schools around the country including Portsmouth.
From 1999-2004 she lived in New York where her husband was working and saw at first hand the devastation of September 11 and the aftermath.
Flick stood as the parliamentary candidate in Southampton Itchen in 2005 and lives in Southsea with her family.
Flick has just written the report for the Social Workers Commission, 'No More Blame Game — the Future for Children's Social Workers'.
Flick has a wide range of experience which is important in politics. Her work as a school inspector has given her a good insight into the education system and she is would like to see teachers be given the opportunity for more professional development during their careers.
She believes that getting rid of the Community Health Councils, the public's watchdog on the NHS, by the Labour Government has contributed to the decline in the NHS especially standards of cleanliness.
As a city councillor, Flick had to deal with many issues which affect everyone including housing, transport and crime. She is hoping that the recommendations outlined in the report on social workers will be implemented by all Children's Services.
Flick has been an active campaigner for the Conservatives for the last 15 years and recently was Campaign Director in the Winchester city council elections where the Conservatives took back power after 17 years winning 7 seats. She has also done some campaigning in the United States for John McCain and the Republicans.
Flick has already been out to campaign with local Conservatives to stop the closures of the two post offices in Francis Avenue and Clarendon Road in Portsmouth. Local post offices are important for our communities and are a life line to our pensioners.
Her time in the Territorial Army has made her determined to fight for our armed forces and she will be making sure that our navy is properly equipped. Portsmouth has had a Naval Base since 1194 and Conservatives will make sure that it remains the base for the Royal Navy for the next millennium and beyond.
It is a very exciting time to live in Portsmouth with shopping centres and other areas being redeveloped. This is going to attract more people and we are going to have to ensure that our roads and public transport are equipped to deal with the challenges. She will be following the latest consultations on the future of Portsmouth closely.
